A long time ago during the Vietnam War, William L. Calley Jr., who as an Army lieutenant, led U.S. soldiers and killing hundreds of Vietnamese civilians in the My Lai massacre, It was perhaps one of the most vicious war crime in modern American military history. Calley Jr., had lived in a state of being inconspicuous since.

William L. Caley Jr., was court-martialed and convicted in 1971, the only one of 25 men originally charged to be found guilty in the Vietnam War massacre. .On March 16, 1968, Calley led American soldiers of the Charlie Company on a mission to confront a crack outfit of their Vietcong enemies. Instead, over several hours, the soldiers killed 504 unresisting civilians, mostly women, children and elderly men, in My Lai and a neighboring community.

Of the Attack in MyLai, several U.S. soldiers refused orders to kill innocent civilians during the massacre, and one soldier even intentionally shot himself in the foot to avoid participating (Google). Senator Mark Kelly is correct regarding to “avoid, neglect and refuse illegal orders.

William Calley Jr., was convicted by twenty-two counts of premeditated murder and assault with intent to commit murder. Calley received Life imprisonment with hard labor, later commuted to 20 years imprisonment: hence, commuted to 10 years imprisonment. And finally, commuted to three years of house arrest by President Richard Nixon. William Calley Jr., died on April 28, 2024 (aged 80) in Gainesville, Florida (as cited, Wikipedia).
